Play the simple but penetrating game / interactive art installation KIDS wherever you want and experience the moving subtleness of The Stillness of the Wind.
This is the type of game where you afterwards ask ‘okay, what was that?’, but in a good way.
KIDS examines the details of peer pressure with consciously minimal means.
“If your friends jumped off the bridge, you would do the same,” but then a hundred times.
KIDS consists of all kinds of black and white levels that all have identical black and white figures.
Sometimes it’s just one, and you can easily identify yourself.
But then it becomes more: they all run or swim in the same direction.
Do you do that too, or do you choose the opposite direction?
If the whole group points to the left, how do you get to the right?
KIDS is full of such issues, which are usually conveyed non-verbally.
It looks like art, and actually it is.
KIDS was already on display as an interactive art installation in numerous museums around the world.
The way in which KIDS turns an individual into a group and thus directly influences the expectations of the player or spectator works very well.
KIDS is not a long game, but in all its simplicity a very impressive work of art.
KIDS allows you to move with and against crowds until everyone is gone. KIDS is a short interactive animation drawn by Michael Frei and coded by Mario von Rickenbach, their second collaboration after the award-winning project PLUG & PLAY. KIDS is available now for iOS, Android, PC,Mac and Linux https://playkids.ch/
The Stillness of the Wind
In The Stillness of the Wind you play as an old lady who lives in a small farm in the middle of the desert.
Everyone has moved to the city, but the old Talma has remained.
In The Stillness of the Wind, you turn Talma’s daily activities into your own routine: planting and harvesting vegetables, feeding the animals, milking the goats, making cheese and more.
What starts as a beautifully designed FarmVille quickly becomes a moving story.
Talma moves slowly, almost pitifully.
In her house are letters from friends and family who once lived with or next to her, but now have died or moved.
Talma remains strong, but the slow way in which she does her work hints at something else.
The Stillness of the Wind reminds the likely young player about the fact that someday we will all grow old, and even though we now have many friends and family; how will it be in the future?
