Hotelbeds is a travel tech company that runs a hotel distribution platform for travel agents, tour operators, and airlines to make hotel bookings on behalf of the customer. It has just recently been certified by Carbon Footprint Ltd for its second year in a row as a carbon neutral organization. Carbon Footprint Ltd is an independent group that accredits carbon regulation assessments and appropriate exercises for businesses.
This esteemed recognition indicates Hotelbeds’ dedication to decreasing its effects on the environment and establishing sustainable methods by counteracting carbon emissions.
With business related travel as a primary contributor to the company’s carbon emissions, Hotelbeds formed an initiative last year that added a small charge to every employee business flight. The money generated was then put towards funding the carbon neutral program as well as raising the awareness of its employees regarding the significance of eliminating and balancing carbon emissions.
Last year, this agenda helped to donate to the Portel-Para Deforestation Project in the Brazilian Amazon – the greatest surviving rainforest on Earth – in an effort to halt arbitrary deforestation. This year, Hotelbeds decided to direct these funds to the Renewable Energy Project in India, which heads the establishment of solar panels in the country to promote better energy security, diversification, and sustainability.
Sustainably leading the way in the travel industry
Leader of Corporate Sustainability at Hotelbeds, Teresa Laso, said, “We are proud to have been certified a Carbon Neutral Organisation for a second consecutive year as it underscores our sustainable business outlook. As part of this responsibility, an environmental policy has been developed that includes a commitment to tackle these emissions, including setting annual emissions reduction targets. We have also developed guidelines and a communication campaign to help employees implement the new environmental policy, including practical tips on how to reduce environmental consumption at work and to raise awareness of climate change and how it relates to Hotelbeds. As leaders in the travel industry we wanted to be at the forefront of environmental consciousness, inspiring both other companies and even individual travelers, reducing what we can and offsetting the rest.”
