Ren Zhengfei, the CEO of the Chinese telecom company Huawei, openly stated his anger towards Donald Trump in an interview with Bloomberg. The US president suspects Huawei of espionage and blacklisted the company, which Zhengfei is angry about. “If Trump calls me, I may not even answer.”
The Chinese telecom company has inadvertently become a major player in the trade war between the United States and China. When Trump recently indicated that Huawei might be involved in a new trade agreement between the two world powers, Zhengfei got it wrong. “This is a big joke, how are we involved in trade between China and the US?”
The CEO does not hide his opinion of Trump, whom he previously called “a great president”. “I see his tweets and I find them ridiculous, because they are contradictory.” Zhengfei does not even know if he still wants to speak to the American president. “If he calls me, I may not even answer. And if I ignore him, with whom can he negotiate with?”
In the past year, there was a growing fear that Huawei could watch through back doors, for example via equipment for fast mobile internet. The United States accuses Huawei of espionage in cooperation with the Chinese state, although there is no public evidence for that.
The Chinese telecom company is currently on a black list, as a result of which American companies are no longer allowed to do business with Huawei. The telecom giant is bothered by this ban because the organization is largely dependent on cooperation with American companies.
In addition, Google said it would no longer grant licenses to the company. As a result, owners of a new Huawei phone no longer have access to Google’s Play Store and can therefore no longer purchase apps, which can have major consequences for the sales of Huawei phones.
The company is also under attack in America for alleged theft of technology. Zhengfei says he can only laugh about that. “We have stolen tomorrow’s American technology. They don’t even have that technology.” The CEO sees the accusations as evidence of Huawei’s lead. “We are ahead of the United States. If we were behind, Trump would have no reason to attack us so strongly. “
