A tragic turn of events took place last week Thursday when a couple from Louisiana went on holiday together in Tanzania. Steven Weber and Kenesha Antoine were vacationing in a cabin with an underwater bedroom at the Manta Resort on Pemba Island. Weber went diving in the water outside their bedroom with no swimming gear other than goggles. He then proposed by pressing a note up against the their window before offering Antoine a ring.
The note read, “I can’t hold my breath long enough to tell you everything I love about you. BUT… Everything I love about you I love more EVERY DAY! Will you please be my WIFE”.
Unfortunately, Weber never returned to the surface.
“You never emerged from those depths, so you never got to hear my answer, ‘Yes! Yes! A million times, yes, I will marry you!!’ ” Antoine posted on Facebook. “We never got to embrace and celebrate the beginning of the rest of our lives together, as the best day of our lives turned into the worst, in the cruelest twist of fate imaginable,” she continued. “I will try to take solace in the fact that we enjoyed the most amazing bucket list experiences these past few days, and that we both were so happy and absolutely giddy with excitement in our final moments together.”
Steven Weber’s sister, Mandy Hoffman, explained that none of the family have been in contact with the Tanzanian authorities.
“We know he drowned but we don’t know the circumstances surrounding that,” Said Hoffman. “He dove down to propose but never came up.”
Weber’s body has yet to be returned to the U.S.
Hoffman continued, “What we understand in a country like Tanzania, things shut down over the weekend so we have to wait until Monday to hear anything”.
The resort made a statement over the weekend confirming Weber’s death. Chief Executive Officer Matthew Saus said, “Our sincerest condolences, thoughts, and prayers are with his girlfriend, families, and friends impacted by this tragic accident”.
According to Saus, Tanzanian officials are currently looking into the matter.
