Nickelodeon has given the green light for a prequel to the hit series Spongebob Squarepants.
The new series, which is going to be called Kamp Koral (working title), tells what happened to Spongebob, Patrick and Mr. Krabs before they ended up in the underwater village of Bikini Bottom, Deadline reports.
Although the original from Spongebob is a 2D series, this version will be recorded in 3D.
The series tells the story of Spongebob when he was ten years old and spent his vacation in a summer camp.
The series is going to have a total of thirteen episodes.
“SpongeBob has an incredible universe to expand upon and the greenlight for Kamp Koral is a testament to the strength and longevity of these characters known and loved by generations of fans around the world,” said Ramsey Naito, Nickelodeon’s EVP Animation Production and Development.
It is not yet clear when Kamp Koral will be shown.
