Amazon is going all out on Prime Day this year, their largest global shopping event just for Prime members. As well as extending the event to two days rather than one, Amazon is also going to be holding a concert with Taylor Swift as the main act. Other performers include Dua Lipa, SZA, and Becky G. The concert will broadcast globally at 9pm eastern time on the 10th of July on Prime Video – the American internet video on-demand service that is created, owned, and run by Amazon. The multinational tech giant says that the concert will be streaming in over 200 countries and will remain accessible the following day with on-demand viewing.
The purpose of the event
The concert isn’t just an event to create awareness of Prime Day and provide Prime members with more value for money; it is also a marketing tactic for Amazon Music which is currently available for just one cent shy of a dollar for the first four months of service. With Prime membership, customers will have around two million songs available to them through Prime Music, with the option of upgrading to Amazon Music Unlimited to get a variety of over 50 million songs without being hassled by annoying adverts.
Additionally, Amazon will be utilizing concert airtime to promote their approaching Amazon Original series such as Carnival Row, Modern Love, The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, Jack Ryan, The Boys, and Undone, among several others.
“We can’t wait to celebrate Prime Day with an extraordinary night of unforgettable performances, for members around the globe,” said Vice President of Amazon Music, Steve Boom. “Prime Day brings members the best of both entertainment and shopping. To celebrate, we’ve curated a lineup across multiple genres with performances from artists our customers love. We’re looking forward to celebrating Prime Day with this can’t-miss, one-of-a-kind event”.
